Alpaca Loom in Paarl is one of Cape Towns most unique family friendly outings. No wonder they are a popular choice on any must to activity lists when visiting the Western Cape.

We’ve visited Alpaca Loom many times before and its one of those family friendly outings that just never get old. Especially, if you are an animal lover. So much so that when we asked my 3 year old where he would like to go for his birthday outing. Visiting the Alpacas was his first request. From watching the weavers at work to feeding the Alpacas its not hard to understand why.

What to expect at Alpaca Loom:

Petting Zoo where you can feed the alpacas and goats

They dont just have alpacas and goats, you will get to meet horses and camels , sheep and chicken too.

Coffee shop for cold drinks , coffees and baked goods / toasts and quiche.

Outdoor play area with a jungle gym, sand pit and swings.

Additional activities : Alpaca walks , Barn tours

Good to know:

Paarl gets super hot in summer and there is minimal shade at Alpaca Loom so don’t forget to pack a hat and sunscreen if you are visiting during the warmer months.

Entrance to the shop & weaving studio is free. Entrance to the petting zoo is R30 per person.

Alpaca Barn Tours take place daily every hour on the hour. There is no need to prebook . The tour is 45 – 60 minutes. Cost : R100 per adult. R70 per child . Children under 3 : free. This fee also includes entry into the petting zoo.

The Alpaca Walk is a guided walk accompanied by our woolly alpaca friends. After a short introduction you explore the farm and surroundings while leading an alpaca on a halter. Daily at 10:00 and 16:00 (preferably by appointment as availability is limited). Duration is 45 – 60 minutes. Cost is R150 per person, with a minimum of 2 people.
